Staying Ahead of the Game

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there really isn’t anything special about how I keep up with the day to day tech news. There are plenty of small things that you can do even to keep up with the general news and not really detailed stuff. Even though I am focusing on technology here most of it applied to any sort of news you are interested in including world news or a hobby.
I joke that I don’t know how to read since I do so much via audio and video. I live off of podcasts for my news in the technology world and to be quite honest I use twitter and RSS feeds for local, national and global news. I can speed through my news very quickly and then expand on any story that catches my eye where as the rest I just catch the headline and that’s all I need. Most news sites now have feeds you can use in an RSS reader.
When it comes to technology it’s all about knowing who to keep an eye on and how to consume a lot of information with the least amount of effort. I tend to use a few general podcasts to keep me up to date on general news, which can be very helpful for those with little time to work with. The rest are focused on different areas like Microsoft, social networks, google, cloud services, programing, photography, i think you get the point.
Below is a nice little chart that breaks down the necessities. Lost of blogs and podcasts that will get you into the know. Now these are all in English but there are similar resources in other languages and might be as close as an iTunes store trip to the podcast section and tech. I know this is by no means a end all be all list but it will get you started. Most of these you can watch on your computers from the sites or add them via iTunes to listen or watch on the go. Enjoy.
Tech Online Networks and Shows
Twit.tv is one of the heavy hitters when it comes to podcasting and vidcasting. They have shows that cover everything from general technology, science, photography, hardware, and even Ham Radios! I have been following this network since it was created as a one show shop and to see it grow and add so many more topic makes me happy inside. The first listen should be This Week in Tech and go on from there.
This Week In is a creation of Jason Calacanis, an investor and leader of the Mahalo shop who seems to be spinning off TWiT by starting his own shows beginning with This Week In…
Revision3 is a network that covers a lot of geek culture and technology but also has hosts shows that aren’t so much PG. You could say that this network is more for the younger generation and less about the TV making
CommandN is a short show hosted by Amber MacArthur a Canadian TV personality that does this tech show in her spare time. She also co-hosts a show on TWiT.tv on social networks.
